AnalyticDroid: Rattle for Android - Data Mining Anywhere and Anytime

Under Development

The Android operating system (based on Linux) is the newest operating system of choice for mobile devices, including powerful smart phones from Google, HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and others. It has overtaken Apple's iPhone in sales. Applications can be developed in Java.

We detail here the concept of Togaware's AnalyticDroid as a graphical user interface for doing Analytics and Data Mining, building on the design of the Rattle application from Togaware. Of course, mobile devices typically have little processing power. AnalyticsDroid connects to the Togaware Analytics Servers (or other cloud servers) where all of the processing is performed using the R statistical software.

Basic functionality is currently available, and full functionality based on Rattle is under development.

ScreenShots

Go to the menu screen of an Android device and then touch the applications button at the bottom to display a list of available applications.

The AnalyticDroid application has been installed onto the device from the marketplace, so simply touch on the icon.

The interface is not yet very pretty, but functional. The design follows that of Rattle, but with the addition of a Connect button which establishes a connection to the Togaware Analytics Servers.

Once connected, the functionality that we might be familiar with from the Rattle application will be available. Load your data, explore it, build models, and evaluate the models.

Connect

The Connect button allows the server to be identified. A user name is then required to connect to a specific project.

Data

Load data into the Project.

Explore

Various statistical summaries and visualisations of the data are available.

Model

Models are built on the Togaware server and we can then display the resulting model on the device.
